Fern Ramoutar is a second-year undergraduate student pursuing an Honours BA in economics and international relations. Her academic interests include external debt in developing countries as well as business-government relations and institution building in Africa. Upon graduation, she hopes to travel and complete one or more graduate degrees in economics or political economy, and to eventually influence acroeconomic policy design in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to becoming a GII mentor, Fern developed an interest in public policy and policy innovation through her work as a research analyst at the Munk School of Global Aff airs and as a Councillor’s Aide at Toronto City Hall. Currently, Fern is the Vice-President, Internal, for the International Relations Society, the course union for the international relations undergraduate program at U of T. The Hart House Jazz Choir, the Toronto Globalist, the North American Model United Nations, and the Youth Assisting Youth peer mentoring program are some of the other clubs and organizations she has been involved with. In her spare time, Fern enjoys learning piano, playing chess, and trying to speak French and Portuguese.
